Abstract

A well-preserved right lower jaw with complete P3-M1 and an isolated canine of a large felid was found in the southern state of Chiapas, Mexico. It is identified as the American lion Panthera leo atrox. Its presence in Chiapas documents its southernmost distribution in North America.
