Abstract

A new characid species, Hasemania nambiquara, is described from the upper Rio Tapajós, Mato Grosso, Brazil. The new species is distinguished from all other Hasemania by the unique presence of one vertically-elongate black humeral spot and a broad horizontal black band ventral to midlateral line between humeral region and caudal fin.
