^*Robert E. Magnien (rmagnien@dnr.state.md.us) is the director of the Tidewater Ecosystem Assessment Division in the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, Annapolis, MD 21401. He led Maryland's technical activities during the Pfiesteria crisis of 1997 and continues to lead an interagency effort to monitor and study Pfiesteria and other harmful algal blooms in Maryland. His research interests include plankton ecology, nutrient dynamics in aquatic systems, and recovery of estuarine systems from eutrophication.
