Abstract

The peristome of O. obtusifolium Brid. is typically double and composed of remnants of cell walls from three peristomial layers. A prostome has never been reported for this species. Here we report the occurrence of a prostome for this taxon based on a single population from western Canada. This prostome extends over the complete surface of the exostome tooth, but falls off shortly after the dehiscence of the capsule.
